Music I Made

I've been playing experimental jazz/noise/garbage since the mid 1990s. Here's a recent long set with an interview. Almost every show has been in the Boston area, because travel is for rich people. Here's some recent records and videos, and you can also find me on bandcamp, or maybe you'd prefer to check out this podcast. You can buy these records from me if you want. $10 each for lps, $5 for 7 inches, and within the US I'll throw in the shipping. Just find my contact info on this site and drop me a line. Scroll down for descriptions of the records.

Bands I've been in include: Preggy Peggy & the Lazy Babymakers, The Phenomenological Boys, Duck That, Exusamwa, Negative One, Sharpened to Death, Semi Sounds, Grizzler, Party Waters, The Human Hairs, Goils Goils & Fripped, Moshi Moshi I Am the Decider, Fleetwood Sac and the Sex Havers, Les Garcons Sur La Plage, Cough Syrup, Pig Sex, and probably 20 more that I've either forgotten or am too embarrassed to tell you about. Here's my vaguely incomplete discogs page.

The records above include:

On The Pedestrian Side
lp
2016/2011-2014
This is a proper songs project that grew, very slowly, out of a live show I played in 2011 where I played the ukulele and sang Ennio Morricone covers. It has no real instruments, as I made it while living inside a small, illegal space without any room for them. Nearly everything you hear is a sample from an lp, or a midi-generated sound, or a voice imitating an instrument. It took forever! Tracklisting: Will There Be Yodeling In Heaven, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Is It Really Me, Cold Enough To Love, Run Angel Run, I Prefer You, Run Angel Run, Millicent Bell, I Wonder As I Wander, Palestine, The Knife I Carry.

Angela Sawyer Croaks
lp
2016
Here’s a record I made while lying around in bed using nothing but my mouth and a phone. One side is nothing but gargling noises, and the other side is nothing but hooting noises. It’s also available through Feeding Tube, Forced Exposure, Deep Thoughts, etc. Tracklisting: Croaks, Honks.

Negative One
7 inch
2016/2015
Local Boston hardcore band of which I am the singer, with lyrics inspired entirely by the shittiest scene punks in the area. Official bio: *THIS BAND IS TIRED OF ALL THE BULLSHIT AND HATES YOU. *THIS BAND IS FULL OF UNFAIR, ARROGANT, INSENSITIVE ASSHOLES WHO WILL NOT PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SPECIAL FEELINGS. *THIS BAND BEGAN AFTER SEVERAL SPECIFIC, REAL-LIFE PEOPLE IN BOSTON RUINED A LONGSTANDING UNDERGROUND MUSIC VENUE. YOU ARE PROBABLY ONE OF THEM SO FUCK YOU. When asked for details about their history, the band said only, “FUCK ALL SHITPEOPLE EVERYWHERE.” Tracklisting: Thumbs Down, Walls Keep Us Divided, 9 to 5, Digital Duality, Please Relocate, Call Out Culture, Pointing the Finger, Hate Is a Faucet, You Lack Direction, We Guilt This City, Policin the Scene, Social Justice, Negative One.

Preggy Peggy & the Lazy Babymakers City That Bleeds
lp
2014/2012
Solo vocals by me, the owner of Weirdo. Little while back I went to Baltimore for a few days to play at the long running High Zero festival. Since I very rarely got time away from my desk, it seemed like an opportune time to make a record. So I did that while sitting inside my rental car. It was hot in there, quiet & humid outside, and the kids and moms walking by on the leafy sidewalk gave me some pretty funny looks. I used a digital handheld recorder, my phone as 2nd recorder/delay pedal, and a laptop to clean things up a bit while waiting around at the festival. Atmospheric if you keep the volume low, a little scarier if you turn it up, and it’s the first lp release that I’ve pressed of my own stuff. Whispers, whoops, gargles & a few doors opening & closing, but otherwise, no instruments & all batteries. Previously on a cassette label in Australia.

Duck That Eggs
cd
2012/2009
Here’s a long-in-the-making record by my improv trio where everybody plays game calls (the little plastic toys that hunters use to make animals come close enough to shoot). Steve Norton & Josh Jefferson are flat-out astonishing players who both make horrific scatalogical noises on a variety of odd reed instruments, including baritone sax, bass clarinet, etc. They’re both super quick, and I spend most of my time in the band just trying to keep up with them. Lots of hook-and-eye structures and, at least on my part, attempts to rip off Mauricio Kagel’s ‘Exotica’. Mostly recorded in the tiny secret dungeon underneath Weirdo, and paid for with the bits & donations we got from playing basements, living rooms, & neglected public buildings around Boston over a few years. Tracklisting: How to Call Ducks, Michael and Brad Go To the Brattle, Cough Your Way Out of That One, Continuous G Snotnose, The Ideal Movements of the Criminal the Diseased and the Cripple, H.A.P.P.Y., A Man Jumps From the Passenger Platform, Double Demand, The Problem Begins When One Forgets the Artificiality of It All, ()()(()()(())()()((())())()()(())(, Retro A-1 Wins, Yo Vivia en las Montanas (for Lexie).
